How to Validate a Business Idea Before Investing Any Money

Maertin K | May 17, 2026 | 1 min read
Most businesses fail because founders build solutions without confirming people will pay for them. Here is how to validate before you invest.

The Most Expensive Mistake

Spending months building a product before confirming anyone wants to buy it. By the time you discover the market does not want what you built, you have invested resources you cannot recover.

Start With the Problem

Talk to potential customers. Ask about their current situation, what they struggle with, how they currently solve the problem, and what they wish existed.

The Landing Page Test

Create a page describing your product, drive targeted traffic, and measure interest through email sign-ups. If 10% or more take action, the idea has demonstrated demand.

The Pre-Sale Method

The strongest validation is getting someone to pay before the product exists. A pre-sale proves genuine demand in a way surveys cannot.
