The Biggest Myth
The most common reason people give for not investing is that they do not have enough money. You can begin investing with as little as Ksh 100 in some platforms.
Money Market Funds
For someone with Ksh 5,000 or less, money market funds are an excellent entry point. Returns of 8-12% annually in Kenya, with low risk and high liquidity. CIC, Sanlam, and NCBA all offer minimums from Ksh 1,000.
Government Securities
Treasury bills issued by the Kenyan government offer guaranteed returns. The Central Bank of Kenya DhowCSD platform allows individual investors to participate.
The Strategy
Ksh 2,000 per month invested consistently at 12% annual returns grows to over Ksh 700,000 in 15 years. The amount is less important than the consistency.
